Enabling ODBC support in PHP under Apache. Enabling ODBC support in PHP under Apache.

Contents: 1. 0 Introduction. This document contains instructions on making ODBC support in PHP work under Apache and specifically with Easysoft ODBC drivers. Easysoft have tested our ODBC drivers with Apache 1. PHP 3. 0. 0 - 5. 0. Due to the long history of Apache and PHP releases, there are many different ways to build/install them with ODBC support. We have attempted to document these methods with the most usual/popular first. If you are using an older copy of Apache or PHP please see .

For information about using an Easysoft ODBC driver with PHP Data Objects (PDO) / PDO. If you are building Apache 1. PHP 4. n see sections below.

Apache supports DSO (Dynamic Shared Objects) on most platforms now. PHP supports loading PHP modules (under PHP) via extension entries in the php. Building PHP 5. n and Apache 2. This section describes how to build PHP 5.

Apache 2. 0. n yourself. You may need to do this because binary distributions for your platform are not available or are not built with the options you require. Get Apache and PHP source distributions from the sites listed in the Appendix A, Useful Links. Untar Apache, cd into the apache directory.

I have just installed Debian Lenny with Apache, MySQL, and PHP and I am receiving a PDOException could not find driver. This is the specific line of code it is.

Lots of funny, sick and wrong jokes. There are many tutorials on PDO already, but unfortunately, most of them fail to explain the real benefits of PDO, or even promote rather bad practices. The only two.

Always run configure - -help with Apache to see what other options you may want to include. This example uses all the defaults. Build Apache with - -enable- -so.

This enables the DSO module which allows Apache to dynamically load modules (like PHP) at run time. Run./configure - -prefix=/dir. When installing Easysoft products, unix. ODBC is installed in /usr/local/easysoft/unix.

Apache 2 runs in a hybrid thread/process mode on any platform that supports both threads and processes. When running multi- threaded you need to use a thread- safe OOB distribution and you are advised to build PHP with the unix.

ODBC driver manager included with OOB. Thread- safe OOB distributions are those containing . Most of this will also be relevant to anyone installing from RPMs but the details here are Red. Hat 9 specifically. Installing Packages from a Shell Prompt. Read this section if you usually add Red.

Hat packages from a shell prompt. Red. Hat 9 contains its own distribution of the unix. ODBC driver manager which this example uses. However, the details are equally applicable to any unix. ODBC installation, both from source and binary packages. You can obtain the unix.

ODBC RPMs from Red. Hat (see Appendix A. Useful Links). Install unix.

You can also use odbcinst to find out where ODBC data sources and drivers should be defined: odbcinst - junix.

ODBC 2. 2. 3. DRIVERS......: /etc/odbcinst. SYSTEM DATA SOURCES: /etc/odbc. USER DATA SOURCES.: /home/person/.

Install the ODBC driver you want to use, create a data source for it and test it with unix. ODBC's isql - see 5.

Testing ODBC in PHP. You can obtain the PHP RPMs from Red. Hat (see Appendix A. Useful Links). Now install the main PHP RPM: rpm - i php- 4. Now see 5. 0 Testing ODBC in PHP.

Testing ODBC in PHP. Build/Install Methods (Apache 1. PHP (3. n. You build PHP as a standalone executable containing the parser and engine and run it as CGI under Apache. We would not recommend this as it is a lot slower but it does allow you to play with PHP without making any Apache changes. In your configure line you would use something like: ./configure - -with- unix. ODBC - -without- mysql - -enable- track- vars. Static build of Apache and PHP.

Here you build PHP, insert the PHP archive into the Apache tree and build Apache. The Apache code and PHP code all exists in Apache. This used to be the most common method of building Apache and PHP and is detailed below. The disadvantage is that if a new PHP is released you need to rebuild Apache AND PHP to start using the new PHP version and the Apache executable is larger.

Dynamic build of Apache and PHP. Here you build Apache with DSO support (mod.

PHP is built as a shared object using Apache's apxs command and then Apache is asked to load it. One obvious advantage of this method is that you can rebuild/change PHP without changing Apache.

Many Linux distributions (Red. Hat etc) distribute Apache like this so if you do not want to have to rebuild Apache but would like to use PHP with ODBC support you can use this method. Dynamic build of Apache with PHP3 and PHP4 modules. This means you can run PHP3 and PHP4. It is basically the same as .

NOTE: specific configure option in PHPFrom PHP4b. PHP for OOB with the - -with- esoob option instead of using the - -with- custom- odbc option. However, if you have installed a standard OOB distribution (or unix. ODBC separately we strongly recommend you build PHP with the unix.

Install PHP 5. 4. IIS 7 to work with MS SQL 2. Deep Shift Labs Development Blog. I decided to write this post because I have not found a simple and clear description for installing PHP on Windows, and setting this not very common combination to work with MS SQL 2. We are currently working on porting the largest system ever created in Deep Shift Labs from Windows 2. MS SQL 2. 00. 0 to Windows 2.

MS SQL 2. 00. 8. I want to speak briefly about the history of this system and why we actually needed to install PHP on Windows. The system is about 8. K lines of PHP code and it has been helping people to solve their business needs for the last 1. This system is designed for one of our customers.

The first few years, the system worked on Free. BSD, Apache and Postgre. SQL. Then the client’s company went public, and they needed to switch to commercial software. Sometime in 2. 00. ADODB, to move, with a little effort, from Free. BSD/Apache to Windows 2. IIS 5 (PHP runs as an ISAPI module).

Finally, in 2. 00. MS SQL 2. 00. 0 from Postgre.

SQL. The most difficult part in the distant 2. Easy To Build Cnc Mill Stepper Motor And Driver Circuits Pdf Printer there. MS SQL. We had tried everything supported by ADODB back then, and, in the end, we decided in favor of php. Frank was maintaining MS SQL extensions in PHP project and helped us immensely.

Create C: \PHP and C: \tmp folders. Load non thread safe PHP version recommended for use here and here. The file will contain . Unpack it in C: \PHP4.

Load latest drivers from MS SQL Microsoft (file SQLSRV3. C: \PHP\ext. 5. Download the PHP web installer from Microsoft. They offer two versions and I used the latter one available with PHP 5.

Install it. You can ask a reasonable question why we install 5. There are two reasons. First – I did not manage to set PHP 5. IIS. Despite my attempts to let PHP see its php. C: \PHP I failed to do so. According to all the manuals you need to create a variable PHPRC assigning the path to php. Since PHP couldn’t see the configuration file, MS SQL driver was not loaded.

Being stuck at this point for a couple of hours I asked for help in the forum and started looking for alternatives, waiting until America wakes up and sees my . It was then that I accidentally came across a site where I found the alternative I was looking for. Maybe I would not have started using the installer if it had not offered to set this magical and wonderful PHP Manager I could not resist at the thought of trying. In the end I found that the PHP Manager allows adding PHP 5. It installs all the necessary components as well.

It took some 1. 0 years for Microsoft to add some really cool things to run PHP on Windows – here you have MS SQL driver and the installer which adds a special PHP Manager inside IIS, and even Windows Cache PHP accelerator for IIS. After installation, we have PHP 5. Program Files and PHP Manager inside IIS. As you can see from the PHP Manager, you can control the configuration parameters from php.

Also here we see what php. There is quick access to the Fast. CGI handler created by the installer.

It is possible to add other versions of PHP and switch between them. We have not tested if it is possible to use PHP Manager to set different PHP versions on different virtual hosts.

I think this and much more, such as to use different php. Ruslan Yakushev from Microsoft. We just needed to add PHP version 5. Now we can add PHP 5. C: \PHP. After adding, we see that IIS now uses a new version of PHP, and that PHP Manager created a new handler, which is used (we do not see it here), but we can check with phpinfo(), which PHP manager can dynamically generate for us (how- cool- it- is!). Now it is time to look at PHP extensions (modules). I removed mysql and added both versions of the MS SQL driver sqlsrv and pdo.

I forgot to check if IIS sees our changes immediately. I am used to executing “iisreset” after changing configuration.

PHP Manager offers two pre- defined configuration options for error handling for development and production. When I changed the path to the error log, PHP Manager did not see my changes, and I had to restart the IIS. I really got used to the old fashioned way for a folder for uploaded files, session and logs and store them in PHP C: \tmp. No wonder our periodic scripts are in C: \etc. First you need to make sure the server is configured to allow TCP/IP as well as port 1. Windows firewall.

In my case it was not so. If you cannot connect from PHP, it is recommended to install SQLCMD and use it for testing.

For example, here we will find the required version of SQLCMD. I want to draw your attention to the fact that the new Microsoft driver returns datetime as PHP Date. Time: : object. But we use ADODB, which does this little trick converting this object into a string on line 7. For example, here you will find the entry to the forum PHP/IIS, and other useful links. Forums dedicated to PHP driver for MS SQL databases are located here.

I used them more- than- once. They are active and guys helped me a lot.
